Radfahren in Österreich.

I took a trip to Austria for my job the past week.  Salzburg is loaded with bikes, bike paths, and bike friendly car drivers.    The whole week was fantastic.  Rental bikes were plenty.  Everyone rode everywhere without thinking twice about it.  The bike paths are clean, well-lit, and ubiquitous.  I've always been a big fan of the secondary effects of infrastructure.  Having a well thought out biking infrastructure has the secondary affects of a healthier populace, less accidents between bikers and autos, and possibly a greater productivity of the populace.  Proving any of these will take some research, which a quick google search shows is already happening.

The locals informed me they rode all year round, too.  A little snow doesn't stop them, just change tires and be on your way.  I should move there.

Legacy Place revisited

Perhaps I was in too much of a rush and simply didn't look hard enough last time, but I noticed on my most recent trip to Whole Foods at Legacy Place there are at least two bike racks. One is just outside the main entrance to Whole Foods. Another is by LL Bean.

Glad to know the racks do exist.

Partial night ride

Given the full moon tonight, I went for a partial night right through the woods. I'll not say where, for it is technically illegal. ;)

It was fun. Until my handlebar mounted front light fell off, and kept falling off. I gave up and rode back by the light of the moon.

Cutler Park NEMBA Ride

I joined NEMBA a few weeks ago.  And now, I went on my first group ride with the SE Mass NEMBA people.  It was great. About 16.8km in an hour and 14 minutes.  Not bad.  Got back just in time for the sun to set.

I definitely had the bike with the oldest technology and most junk with my Jandd bag on the rack.

Legacy Place and Bikes

I went to the new Whole Foods in Dedham today.  I rode there.  There were no bike racks to be found.  I locked the bike to a light post in the parking lot.  It would be neat if Legacy Place figured people may actually not want to drive, wait in line to get into the place, park in a crowded spot, and fight with the throngs of cars trying to get around their lots.

I know, I'm the oddball in this "give me automobile or give me death" culture.
