Interesting Bill in the MA state senate, s2573

An interesting bill is currently making its way through the Massachusetts state Senate which will affect bicyclists in the state. The full text of the bill can be found at s2573.

It includes;
  • training for law enforcement to be more aware of cyclist laws and rights,
  • limits on how many riders can ride abreast,
  • states fines for traffic law violations, but they don't affect your auto insurance (good thing because if you didn't have it..)
  • some protections for cyclists overtaking one another, and
  • loose regulations about cars turning right in front of cyclists.

And almost comically, car occupants incur a $100 fine for opening car doors into cyclists. Umm, $100 plus pay my medical bills, perhaps.

I wonder how it'll fare in the House.
